As there is no physical contact between the tool and the material, the risk of mechanical damage is reduced and gives a very precise and clean section. This technique is particularly useful for creating complex shapes and contours, and its flexibility means that it can be used to cut a wide variety of material types and thicknesses.<\/p>\n<p>During cutting, a focused beam is fired from a high power laser at right angles towards the work piece. We use fibre optics to precisely control this beam. When the laser beam hits the work piece, the energy is converted into heat, which vaporises the material and creates a section. This process is very efficient and produces a finer section than, for example, acetylene cutting, whilst also reducing heat zone in the work piece.
